Announcement: Hajo Boomgaarden to take over as Editor-in-Chief for CCR
As announced earlier, I will be stepping down as Editor-in-Chief of Computational Communication Research. I am thrilled to share that Hajo Boomgaarden will be succeeding me as the new Editor-in-Chief.
Hajo is a Professor of Methods in the Social Sciences, Co-Director of the Computational Communication Science Lab (https://compcommlab.univie.ac.at/) at the University of Vienna and Chair of the European RI Monitoring Electoral Democracy (www.medem.eu). He is a leading figure in the development of computational methods within our discipline, particularly through his work in automated content analysis. Bridging the gap between traditional social science and advanced computational approaches, his research has significantly shaped how we study political communication.
Hajo also brings substantial editorial and managerial experience to the journal. His appointment reinforces CCR’s commitment to publishing rigorous, cutting-edge research in computational communication science. His deep understanding of the methodological challenges and opportunities in our field makes him the ideal person to lead the journal's next chapter.
I want to thank you all as editors, authors, reviewers, and readers for your unwavering confidence in and support for the journal. While I am handing over the editorial lead, I will remain involved as chair of the CCR board and, of course, as an author and reviewer.
The official handover will be at the CM business meeting during ICA South Africa on June 7 2026. Please join me and the CCR editorial team in welcoming Hajo to this new role!
Wouter
